US DataVault Open File Manager

Snapshot Technology

When backing up exclusive, in use or locked files, Open File Manager (OFM) will cache write operations until your backup software has finished backing up the file. This ensures that your backup copy will stay safe from curruption by backing up a snapshot of the file when the backup starts.

How it works:
When your backup software starts to backup an exclusive, in-use or locked file, all write operations to that file will be cached. If a read operation occurs during this time, the application will be instructed to read the cached data. If the data is not found in the cache, the read will then check the hard drive (like usual).

This entire process happens transparently, with no system slowdown. The end result is that your backup software can save a copy of your data and avoid corruption through a snapshot of your data. The application that has opened the file exclusively works like normal.

You can also optionally set a maximum time out option to force a flush of the cached data. This is beneficial to ensure that all cached data is successfully flushed.
